Frequently Asked Questions

As a member of the Kogelo Tours Bowls Team, you will participate in five matches with the Kenya Bowls Federation, Nairobi Club, Muthaiga Club, Karen Club and Mombasa Club.

The format for the matches will be determined closer to the date, and every bowler will play in all three matches. It is recommended that you bring your own set of bowls, but borrowed sets sill be available.

The dress code for the matches is white shorts/trousers and the provided match polo shirt, while
practice sessions and roll-ups have a casual dress code. Club jackets are optional, and bespoke
match shirts and bowls stickers with the tour logo will be provided.

Commemorative trophies will also be provided for the winning team of each match, to be kept
on display at the respective Kenyan Bowling Clubs until the next Kogelo tour. Feel free to bring
your own clubs pennants, shields, or badges to exchange with the hosting Kenyan Bowls Club as
a memento of your visit.

Bowlers of all skill levels are warmly invited — your enthusiasm for the game is the only requirement!

Non-bowling partners are also encouraged to join us on the trip.

Non-bowling partners are more than welcome to accompany us on the trip!

For those preferring not to participate in the matches, additional daily excursions can be organised to local attractions.

Your personal host on this tour will be Kogelo Tours founder Tim Fox. With a rich history of over 25 years in crafting bespoke Kenyan tours, Tim stands out as not just a guide, but a connector to the heart of Kenya.

Tim, who calls President Barack Obama’s grandmother and cousin his friends, will be your personal guide throughout the entire trip, ensuring a seamless and enriched travel experience.

While on safari or down by the coast, the lodges and resorts are of 4-5 star standards, chosen personally to give you the best possible Kenyan experience.

Accommodation in Nairobi is provided at the Nairobi Club, a private members club established in 1901 and located in the heart of the city. Bedrooms are simple but comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms, a fridge, TV and mosquito nets. The club offers an authentic Kenyan experience and has previously hosted guests such as Winston Churchill. It features several lounges, bars, and dining spaces, as well as recreational facilities such as tennis and squash courts, a pool, a fitness centre, and a bowling green.

Price covers all accommodation and transfer within Kenya. Safari and beach are on a full-board basis (excluding drinks). The accommodation in Nairobi is bed and breakfast, allowing for more flexibility to enjoy dining out in the city.

Travel to and from Kenya or additional excursions are not included in the price.

To confirm your booking and secure your spot on the trip, a £500 non refundable deposit must be paid.
Final payment: Due 90 days before departure

You will need a Electronic Travel Authorisation to travel to kenya, which can be acquired here:

We strongly recommend that you take out comprehensive travel insurance, and good medical
care is available throughout Kenya. Nairobi has excellent international standard hospitals, and
the safari lodges we stay at all have medically trained staff.

Consult your GP to find out what vaccinations may be necessary.
Depending on your country of origin or recent travel, you may need a yellow fever vaccination
card. Please check the advice on the Kenya governments official website.

Follow the advice of your GP and take appropriate precautions to avoid mosquito bites, such as covering up with clothing, using insect repellents and sleeping under a mosquito net.
In Kenya, bottled water is easily accessible, but it's important to ensure that it's sealed before purchasing. Avoid buying open drinks, and staff will always open them in front of you. Keep in mind that a change in diet, temperature, schedule and flying may cause stomach issues, and it may take some time to adjust.

Kogelo staff will take you to trusted places when eating out, and vegetarian and vegan options are available. Avoid street food and rinse or peel fresh fruits before eating. Alcoholic drinks are widely available.
Bringing your bank card and using ATMs in the country is recommended. Most expenses are included in the tour price, but expect to pay around 80p for a bottle of water, £1.50 – £2 for a pint of beer, and £7 – £12 for a meal in a good quality restaurant.

Kogelo Tours will assist you through airport immigration, and you’ll need your Electronic Travel Authorisation.

Personal Documents: Bring your entry visa (in both digital and print form), vaccination
certificates (possibly Yellow Fever, not applicable to the UK), and insurance
details in easily accessible formats.

Medication and Toiletries: Pack malaria tablets, personal medication (such as Imodium for
stomach issues and antihistamine for allergic reactions), insect repellant, high-factor sun cream,
and tissues and keep them in your carry-on bag.

Clothes: Bring long, lightweight clothes to prevent sunburn and repel mosquitoes, comfortable,
breathable shoes and a hat, trainers/walking shoes, sandals, a light rain jacket, sunglasses, and
beach shoes for sea swimming and snorkelling. Most hotels and the Nairobi Club will do fast
turn-around laundry at a reasonable rate.

Accessories: Bring leads for electrical devices, a torch, binoculars for safari or bird watching, a
camera with a good zoom, a face mask, and snorkel if going to the coast, books set in Kenya,
local music and relevant apps on your smartphone.

Luggage: Pack a suitable case that is easy to carry (large cases can be problematic on internal
flights if you are going to the coast), and have enough clothes in your carry-on bag in case your
hold luggage is delayed. Have a separate day bag within Kenya and consider a money belt for
cash and cards.

Kogelo will provide and handle all transportation needs, including comfortable air-conditioned mini-buses.
Check with your phone operator for roaming and rates abroad or data packages, or disable roaming and use only wifi while in Kenya. Local SIM cards are also available if needed, but most hotels have wifi, including the Nairobi Club. We recommend using free wifi and WhatsApp.
Poverty is a genuine issue in Kenya, and as a company, we work closely with charities and NGOs to raise awareness and provide education and empowerment to local communities. Your travel with Kogelo Tours already contributes to these efforts. While in Nairobi, you may be approached by people asking for money, including children. We advise not giving money and instead bringing small gifts such as pens and pencils.
Kenya has over 60 languages spoken, with Swahili and English as the official languages are widely spoken. English proficiency may vary in more rural areas, but we always have someone on hand to translate from the local dialect or Swahili into English.
Kenyans are known for their hospitable, warm and welcoming nature. In rural areas, people may seem more reserved, but they are happy to talk once they are introduced to you, especially about their culture and traditions.
